City Council was formed in Fort Frances in 1954, just after the chartering of the Exemplar chapter. Representatives of the three chapters: Nu Phi Mu, Alpha Upsilon and Xi Tau, made up this first council. Alice Solomon was the president
This segment of sorority life has become the background governing body for all five chapters, which are currently established in Fort Frances. Each chapter is represented at city council by the: past president, incoming president, one other member and an alternate. In addition to the elected executive all chapter presidents are appointed as directors. All sorority members are welcome to attend city council meetings; however each chapter is entitled to three votes on any motion.
City Council has remained an active part of sorority. Many activities, fund raisers, charity events and service projects were coordinated by city council on behalf of all active chapters. The Founder’s Day Banquet, the Inter-chapter Party, the Daffodil Drive, the Beta Sigma Phi Bursary, have been with us for many years.
